Coalition 'incoherent'

Tuesday, April 24, 2012
The coalition is guilty of "short term" thinking and there is no sign that government policies are informed by a "clear, coherent strategic approach", the public administration committee says.

In a report published this morning, that may as well have been called the "omnishambles" report, the committee said minister's general aims are "so general as to be meaningless".

Not a nice thing for David Cameron to read over his breakfast this morning, especially after being labeled a "arrogant posh boy" who doesn't know the price of milk/pasties/other things normal people eat.

To make matters worse a poll out today puts Labour on 41% and the Tories on 33%, Labour's biggest lead in nine years.

Also today Theresa May will appear before the home affairs committee to explain the row over whether Abu Qatada can be deported, assuming she remembers what day it is.

And Russell Brand will be before the same committee in the morning to talk about his drug addiction.

Lisa Nandy: Another Financial Crisis Is Inevitable Unless Government Takes Steps to Tackle Short-term Business Culture
There are not enough incentives in the UK's economy to reward business that chooses to take a responsible, sustainable and long-term approach. Similarly, there is a distinct lack of disincentives to deter businesses from irresponsible choices.
Violet Donohoe: A Ban on Wild Animals in Circuses? Don't Be So Sure...
People all over the country punched the air in delight when in March, the long overdue ban on wild animals in circuses in England was announced by the Westminster government... Yet as the days and weeks go by and more details become clear, coupled with the Westminster government's refusal to commit to a deadline for a ban, our delight has rapidly turned to confusion as we cling to the tiny shred of hope that the government really do mean what they say. When the facts are presented to you, it's difficult to remain optimistic.

I thought you'd be interested in this party because you'll actually be footing a lot of the bill. Not just now, or at the event, but for the foreseeable future too. You and the world's poor that is (the 99%, if you will), funding a jaunt for European paper producers to talk shop on protectionism and how they'll continue to racketeer from developing nations.
Brian Binley: Choke off Tehran's support for Assad
With the latest news that the Syrian Government has resumed its attack on the city of Homs - almost a month to the day after the UN Security Council endorsed former secretary-general Kofi Annan's Syria peace plan - the Syrian "cease-fire" could at best be described as ineffective.
Dominic Taylor: The Drama of Stop and Search, From the Street to the Stage
Stop and search - stopping and or searching an individual in a public space on suspicion of a crime or potential crime - remains one of the most tangible signs that in Britain today, we are all far from equal.
