Rich Tax Popular.. Danielle Smith Booed.. Kenney Unplugged

Friday, April 20, 2012
With a budget vote looming on Tuesday, Dalton McGuinty is hoping to find common ground with the New Democrats so that Andrea Horwath can lend her support. If he doesn't, his government will have a hard time being re-elected, according to two polls released this week.

Gerald McEachern: Even Canada's Criminals Deserve Better, Vic Toews
After reading two Canadian prisons are shutting down, I expected there would be some new, high-tech facility to replace them. But I was wrong. The prisoners are being merged. Those people we're tossing in our jails are our neighbours and fellow Canadians, not scum to be cleaned off the soles of our shoes.
J.J. McCullough: The Charter Birthday Got Old, Really Fast
The Charter's anniversary was merely an occasion for a snarky round of I-told-you-sos. As is too often the case in Canada, however, it seems this particular milestone of our heritage is one more weapon with which to fight the shallow battles of the present.
Noah Richler: When a War Conveniently Becomes a "Mission"
Referring to the Afghanistan fight as a "mission," as politicians and the press had been doing almost categorically since 2009, presented a clever way around the shortcoming of having fought a match without result.
Samuel Getachew: Not Even the Charter Excites These Liberals
It seems the party that gave us the Charter is on life support. In a room that was barely half full with aging elected officials, the Liberals celebrated the Charter's 30th anniversary on Tuesday. Looking at former leader Jean Chretien and current leader, Bob Rae, one can predict the certain demise of a once proud party.
Steven Blaney: Actually, We do Take Care of Our War Veterans
In a blog post, NDP MP Irene Mathyssen claimed the government isn't doing enough to support veterans. Yet while we have doubled the number of Operational Stress Injury (OSI) clinics, Mathyssen's party voted against this measure. I find it difficult to reconcile the idea of calling for more support while voting against those initiatives. I would like to assure Canadians that the health and well-being of our veterans is a top priority for our Conservative government. After serving our country so bravely, we believe that our nation's heroes deserve our recognition and respect.
