      Friday, March 30, 2012  FRIDAY Dinosaurs, Languages & Hip Hop What: The Natural History Museum opens its doors for another "First Fridays" evening of discussions, performances and DJs. The discussions at this one deserve just as much attention as the performances. Jared Diamond, the author of the infamous "Guns, Germs and Steel," will lead a discussion asking "Is it Good or Bad that the World has so Many Languages." The tour before that: "The Dinosaur Hall: the language of exhibit design." To top it off, performances from experimental pop artist Matthew Dear and underground rap group Songodsuns. When: Friday, Mar. 30, Tour & discussions 5-7:30pm, Performances 8-10pm, $12 Where: National History Museum, 900 Exposition Blvd., LA, CA "Annie Hall"/"Radio Days" What: Laugh, reminisce and feel better about your own neuroses as you fall in love with Woody Allen and Diane Keaton all over again in "Annie Hall." Get a double dose of both actors by sticking around for "Radio Days," Allen's tribute to the golden age of radio; see trailer below. When: Friday, Mar. 30, 7:30pm, $11 Where: Aero Theatre, 1328 Montana Ave., Santa Monica, CA SATURDAY "All In For The 99%" What: Enough for multi-million-dollar art for the 1%. All day Saturday, artists, musicians, writers and activists unite to amplify the voices of the 99% and to demand an end to Citizens United. The event will feature SLAKE magazine readings (including Val Kilmer performing "Mark Twain"), Funny or Die short film screenings, activist trainings, DJ sets and art from Retna, Gia Coppola, Shepard Fairey, Neck Face, Robbie Conal and many more. At 11am, an aerial photo will be taken of the crowd to represent a united 99%. When: Saturday, Mar. 31, 10:30am-6:30pm, Free Where: 400 S. La Brea, LA, CA PST Times Out What: Pacific Standard Time, LA's massive six-month, city-wide collaborative art project, is coming to an end. But dismay not. To celebrate the project's success, 19 museums, including the Getty, LACMA and the Grammy Museum, will offer free admission all day Saturday! Brewery Artwalk What: The Brewery, previously a Pabst Blue Ribbon brewery and bottling plant, is a live-work space for over 300 artists in downtown LA. Twice a year, the creative colony opens its home to the public and sells its creations. Take a stroll and buy directly from the artists! When: Sat-Sun, 11am-6pm, Free Where: The Brewery, 2100 N. Main St., LA, CA SUNDAY Thai New Year/LA Curry Festival What: For the ninth year in a row, the Thai New Year (Songkran) Festival will take over Thai Town and celebrate in the streets. The event will feature dozens of food vendors, the LA Curry Festival, a beer garden, live traditional Thai music and dance, Thai Boxing, Ms. Songkran Pageant, a water blessing ceremony and Thai crafts vendors. If you take the Metro and show your ticket, you'll receive a free Thai umbrella while supplies last. When: Sunday, April 1, 9am - 8pm, Free Where: Hollywood Blvd. between Western and Normandie, LA, CA Libros Schmibros Book Club What: Enjoy a discussion of novel "Already Dead: A California Gothic" by Denis Johnson, author of "Jesus' Son." Co-directors of the East Los Angeles book store Libros Schmibros will lead their monthly book club discussion at the Hammer Museum. Even if you haven't read the book, get a sneak peak into a contemporary noir as discussed by some of the city's finest literature addicts.
